The Casting Dock

Grammar GLORY. The best laugh I’ve had by myself in a while.

I’ve admitted it before, but I’m one of those (semi-) obnoxious grammar sensitive people, always noticing, sometimes (judging and) correcting improper uses of the English language. I certainly don’t claim to be impervious to a grammar slip-up of my own (that would be my husband, the self-titled Grammarian in Residence and Royal Reader of the Proofs), but certain words are just on my radar screen. I generally don’t actually correct people (aside from my family, in a playfully obnoxious way) because I do have enough social awareness to know that it’s annoying and comes off as quite arrogant. But I always notice.

That being said, I get a GIANT kick out of other people correcting improper uses of grammar. Living vicariously through (slightly) less tactful people? Yes, indeed.

A friend posted a link to this on facebook (thanks, Sara!)–The 30 best obnoxious responses to misspellings on Facebook–and I must say, I found it HILARIOUS. Some of them are crude, so consider yourself duly warned if you choose to peruse the entire list, but I just haaaaad to snag a few to share on here. And we’re not really talking about just a missed letter on the keyboard…there are some blatant, I’m-really-concerned-about-the-state-of-our-education ones…

So I hope you have a few laughs with your morning coffee and then head out to enjoy a glorious Saturday!

Just think, someday you’ll be helping people just like this pick the college that’s right for them!

Tangent… I’ve been thinking of just getting in the car and driving to Monterrey. They say the road is lawless, though. Still only 6-7 hours away. Can’t wrap my mind around the fact that I live 6hrs from Monterrey. I’ve never been to Mexico. Do you think that Juarez and the near-interior roads get a bad rap? I mean State keeps issuing warnings to Americans that want to stay alive AND travel that they book a trip somewhere not through a Mexican border town. But that’s probably all hype.

The other thing and maybe your worldly blog readers can help me here… How come Mexican cities don’t have nicknames? Is that only an American thing? Almost every one of our top 20 has a nickname. Emerald City, Beantown, Tinseltown, Big Apple. Is there a nickname for Juarez but it’s only known to Mexicans? What is the nickname for Monterrey? Don’t-Drive-to-Us-City, Take-a-Flight-ville? I dunno.

It’s rambler. Seriously, I could have a topo chico in Monterrey and be back before the end of the weekend. Probably not smart though… Where would I get pesos on a weekend, right?

HA–It makes me SO glad to know others were able to enjoy them to the same degree that I did…I was laughing SO hard when I read them the first time, alone, at night, babysitting after the kids went to sleep. I insisted on showing Jerry as soon as I got home. The picture ones especially got me–the Gene Simmons one and the tattoo! Oh man, that tattoo one was HILARIOUS!

And Bry, what a tangent indeed! In the words of Jer, “It’s funny to see how you all have little pieces of Noche in you…”

I’m cracking up over here. I love when they try to salvage what they meant, and only make it worse. I saw this one the other day:
Let’s eat Grandpa!
Let’s eat, Grandpa!

Commas: They save lives.

A great way to start the day – with a smile on my face. I agree with JD – “Board” was definitely my favorite!

love this. and i’m the same way. although i might not be as socially conscious as you are about when and when not to correct others. whoops.
