Into my late 20s…

I turned 27 last week. I’ve always felt good about 27, anticipatory even. I think it’s going to be a stellar year.

We had a cook-out with some of our closest friends in our backyard–burgers, fries, bocce, a couple sheets strewn on the ground. The typical drill. It was low-key and lovely. Just what I wanted. It was also the initiation of our summer grill which has been sitting idly as the warm days wear on, the result of a tiny broken part.
She’s finally up and running.

I intended to take more photos, but you know how that goes sometimes…I did, however, thoroughly enjoy this lovely birthday blog post, ripe with photos, from one of my very favorite people…

I’m hoping we have lots more little cook-outs under these cozy lights–it’s the best way to enjoy summer nights.

Life lately.

We have had a whirlwind of activity around here this past month. Each weekend has been packed with events and travel and family and friends and celebrations. And those pesky five days in between the weekends have been bustling with work as I head towards the final two weeks of the school year.

1. Jerry’s little brother graduated from college and we all benefited from a glorious outdoor ceremony in mid-May! It was an unexpected benefit of moving back to Massachusetts that we would find ourselves in the same little 5 mile chunk of Earth with Jordan. And while he was busy doing the college thing and we didn’t see him a ton, we loved having him so close and will miss him come August when the next crop of college kids rolls through without him. Congrats Jordan!

2. Our friends Diego and Kira got married on the most gorgeous day up at a picturesque inn on the coast of Rockport. Glorious New England at its best. Diego has been a longtime friend from college and one of the most loyal and reliable people I know. It has been an absolute joy to watch him as he has grown to deeply love and cherish Kira, just the sweetest and most easy going girl. I could not be happier for the two or them or more content in knowing that they each have found their match. They are off to San Francisco for the first of what I am sure will be many adventures!

{and an added bonus for me–I got an afternoon with BOTH of my college roommates!}

3. Memorial Day weekend spent in Georgia. Jerry’s grandparents were celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary (!) and his parents were throwing them a party so we went down to celebrate. It was a delightful evening all around! While in Georgia, we grabbed breakfast with some of Jerry’s friends from high school (whom I thoroughly enjoy) and the newest addition–little 8 week old Harper who was just too cute! We also snuck down to catch a Braves game, which is possibly Jerry’s very favorite activity on Earth.

4. The following weekend we went down to NYC to visit my college roommate Julie whom we had the pleasure of seeing a couple weeks before at Diego and Kira’s wedding. Every time we pop down to hang out with Jules we get a different experience of New York City. This go around we spent some time on the West Side–checking out the Cloisters, a division of the MET housed wayyyy up on the West Side, strolling through Columbia’s campus, dining on the Hudson, hopping over to Hoboken, NJ to check out Carlo’s Bakery (sight of the TV show Cake Boss), and meandering soberly through the new 9/11 Memorial. NYC never disappoints with Julie as our host!

We are so thankful for family and friends and the means to see them and celebrate with them. We are also thankful for a low-key weekend in our little sliver of the world these past two days. It has been exactly what we needed before the action-packed summer really kicks into high gear!

food and friends. it’s the simple things.

Hey y’all! I got my camera back all patched up and ready to go!

HOORAY!

Evidently not everyone is quite as excited as I am by this development.

No more privacy!
No more talking, eating, or sleeping without the fear that a camera will be snapping in my face!

Poor guy.

Well, nevertheless, we spent the weekend in the great state of Maine celebrating this fella’s birthday with some lovely friends.

It was warm (relatively speaking), restful, and full of lots of games and food, as all Maine trips typically are.

SO thankful for good friends who inspire and encourage!

Happy Birthday Josh! Hope to celebrate many more with you!

a veteran’s day picture recap.

Jerry and I went to visit our friends JD & Whitney in Annapolis this weekend. A fitting destination in celebration of Veteran’s Day, no? I really can’t do this weekend justice with words so I will let the pictures speak for themselves. Suffice it to say, it was JUST what the doctor ordered. From the company to the weather to the activities to the conversations to the food to the scenery to the cost (free flight vouchers!), all of it was perfect. Just perrrrrfect.

So perfect in fact, that Jerry and I, CLASSIC debriefers (I have converted him! Victory!), couldn’t even identify set highlights of the weekend. The whole thing was just one giant peak. Loved. Every. Second. Thanks for hosting, JD&Whit…we LOVE hanging out with you guys. Sixty straight hours and never a dull moment or awkward conversational silence…pre-tty impressive.

Picture credit for those amazing orange trees and white fence goes to Whit all the way…thanks for letting me swipe it!
