The Casting Dock

birthday blitz

OK, so I might be a few days late, but he won’t mind. He’s not a regular on the blogfront (unless he’s putting in a plug against my oldest brother’s clear intellectual superiority in the fam) and he was living it up in Vegas for his birthday weekend anyway. Not too shabby. Plus, he’s the middle child so he’s doomed to a life of neglect, habitually overlooked and often forgotten. Right? Luckily he’s adapted to it. Oh the plight of the middle.

OK, but in all seriousness, Saturday was my middle brother Adam’s birthday, and since I don’t typically do the weekend bloggin thing, he really deserves a smashing mid-week blog shout-out!

Adam is “the social one.” He’s got that natural charmer thing going on. One of those people who very well could be talking out of his ass 50% of the time, but he does it so convincingly that he could sell ice to an eskimo. He is clearly the biggest “people person” in my family (which, if you know my mom, is saying a lot…) and he’s very driven and ambitious when something catches his attention. Now catching (and holding!) that attention is another story altogether, a feat in and of itself!

He can make me laugh like pretty much no one else. I mean, he’s funny, for sure, but I find him irrationally funny. His humor, delivery, and little quirks just tickle me.  And boy, can he tell a good story. That’s an inherent strength of those charmers, I think.  While we may not see each other often, Adam holds a place in my heart unlike any other. I love him to pieces. He’s exceedingly loyal and while he may mask it well on the surface, he’s actually quite tender-hearted.

And while we’re on birthdays, let’s blitz you with one more: this lovely lady, AKA my mother-in-law, whose birthday actually is today!

Top 5 words to describe the real “Mrs. Logan”:

1. Generous: this Logan clan is just oozing generosity. Seriously. I’ve belabored this point before, but they are just givers. Givers of time, givers of money, givers of love and acceptance, just pure givers, most definitely led by the Mrs.

2. Southern: sweet tea, drawn out bless his hearts, down home cookin’, treating everyone who steps foot in your house like legit family, peach cobbler, sooouuuuth-ern lovin baby.

3. Disney: she is a Disney lover and a Disney pro. Girlfriend navigates that place like there’s no tomorrow.

4. Super-Mom. I told Jerry when we were dating, I hope you’re not one of those guys who’s looking to marry your mother because your mom is seriously like Super Mom and I can’t live up to that. Whether he was or not is besides the point. He’s stuck with me now. Disorganized, overly-curious, constantly debriefing, MESSY, still-has-clothes-from-January-waiting-for-the-dry-cleaners-drop-off ME. But honestly, Mrs. Logan just has her mom-ducks in a row: the best coupons, the latest flight deals, the meals planned out, birthdays never forgotten (for like 127 people), everything ready and organized in advance. Super. Mom.

5. hospitable-loving-loyal-nurturing-thoughtful-creative: five wasn’t gonna cut it.

Happy Birthday!

I love “Adam” stories thought I don’t get to see him often. I especially love when he gives your mom a hard time…cracks me up. Happy B-day Adam!

Thanks Lisa! Nice piece. This will certainly be referenced in my E! True Hollywood story.

Jenna – steal thunder elsewhere.

Lisa – “Bless your heart” – I do say that a lot, don’t I – thank you so much for the VERY kind words. You have been such a beautiful and wonderful addition to our family – taking care of BOTH of my sons on the North Shore. Words can’t express how grateful I am for you.

Poor Adam, I too am the “middle child” doomed to a life of living up to the older brother’s accomplishments and not being as cute as the younger sister (she drinks too much anyway). So, a big Happy Birthday to a fellow middle child, may all your birthday be spent Vegas style.
Now, about Saint Patti…I gave her a bit of grief on her birthday by posting signs with a very dated picture of her on it stating “Today is my Birthday”, telling the FedEx guy to wish her a Happy Birthday, telling the custodial worker to wish her a happy 6oth, forgetting her gift at home, etc. but it is all done in love. Patti has been the best friend anyone could ever hope or pray for, especially this past year when she literally held my hand, handed me tissues, and kept me smiling day after day. I am so blessed to have her as a friend and I know that you feel just the same way.

Happy birthday gang! Adam, I hope Vegas was fun: I’m sure the trip will add an intriguing layer to your upcoming “E! True Hollywood Story.” Mom, it wasn’t Vegas, but hopefully last night’s episode of Survivor and some down time were just what you needed after Ms. Terri put you through the ringer at work.

Since he was included in the photo documentation of birthday people, you all should know that Mr. Potato Head was born on May 1, 1952 (according to the always reliable Wikipedia). Since we’re only a couple months away from that date, I think Mr. Potato Head should be included in the birthday blitz. He’s not as cool as Adam and my mom, but he tries really hard and his moustache would make Tom Selleck jealous.

Adam the GREAT…he, he…Happy Birthday A! I second all of what Lisa said about you. I will, however take credit for your charming personality, superb story telling ability and most witty mind. Sorry, I’m stealing your thunder….Much love and fear not your birthday celebration is coming soon. Much love to you my sweet son.

Jer…no kidding, I loved Mr. Potato Head….the original one, not the plastic one with the pre-made holes for the eyes & ears….I’m showing my age!
