The Casting Dock

another design dream for a distant day.

Somewhere in my fanciful real estate future, along with the library ladder, will hopefully be my other deeply-desired love: exposed brick.

I am so in love with the historic, character-filled aesthetic of exposed brick walls. I feel like they make the most sense (and pack the biggest punch) in old-factories-turned-loft-apartments in urban settings.  Odds are I’ll never actually live in such a place, but somewhere in my rampantly running daydreams, I do. I have a little one bedroom condo, either in downtown Boston or Austin with a small, but functional kitchen, a library ladder on the back wall of the living room leading to a storehouse of books, original hardwood floors, exposed beams, and large windows brilliantly framed against the brick wall which are overlooking a bustling downtown street. It’s oh-so-charming, cozy, and quaint–not too assuming, extravagant, or expensive. I like to spend a little time there on occasion, contemplating decorations, and simply drinking in the glorious scene.

Although I can’t offer you a glimpse into my (fictional, bordering on delusional) condo, these babies will give you a taste of what I’m talking about…

Have I mentioned that I have trouble sleeping sometimes?
These are the thoughts that comfort me on such nights.

I’m on board for everything minus the bustling downtown street–houses in the country are made of brick, too. Shouldn’t be too hard to expose some of it.

I like the first picture the best….red brick mixed with wood to soften the look….so nice.
Maybe I should live out your fantasy and go live in a city loft for a year….where to go?
